Here’s to Big Ships in the Night

I’m living a dream that I had about 3 years ago. I will never forget it. At the time I thought it was about my PhD, but now I know it was about my marriage-divorce. I dreamt that it was a dark stormy night. I was on a massive ship in the middle of a stormy ocean. I found myself on the deck with the crew. They were telling me that I had to jump.

The Thing About Balance

Balance is a tricky business. Forget all the images you see of people sitting in lotus pose, with their sage, candles and mudras. Living in a state of balance requires macro decisions followed by dozens of simplistic micro-decisions. It might include some of the former but it’s usually not Instagrammable. I find that taking the time daily to practice gratitude for the small things changes my mood, which improves my balance. Practicing gratitude is also a way that I cultivate joy - a light that fills you with hope and faith and love.

Maybe We Can Emoji It All Better

After posting a few humorous Instagram stories about me going down with the hashtag #itstherussians or #blameitontherussians , I settled into my seat next to a Russian guy. He was incredibly kind, helped me with my bags, and didn’t moan every time I stood to use the washroom. I casually looked at his WhatsApp conversation (as you do), and saw his messages littered with heart emojis and kisses. My brain fired off a “wow, he’s just like me...”
